TECH.LAND Goes Circular!

On January 15, 2025, the Cross Border Circular Plastic Session took place at Energenta Ersatzbrennstoffe GmbH in Ochtrup. The event was jointly organized by our TECH.LAND initiative and the Two4C project. It marked the launch of the Circular Economy Cluster in our region and served as a key networking opportunity for participants of the Two4C project.

Dutch and German entrepreneurs came together to discuss the challenges, opportunities, and solutions for circular economy strategies in North Rhine-Westphalia and the Eastern Netherlands. More than 15 companies participated, fostering valuable connections and successful collaborations.

After introductions by Two4C project leader Kim-Oliver Hellmers and TECH.LAND program manager Hans Brouwers, two best practice reports from the region were presented.
Ramon Averbeck from Energenta Ersatzbrennstoffe GmbH provided the German perspective, discussing challenges in plastics recycling and the use of non-recyclable plastics as substitute fuels. He highlighted the  transition to hydrogen production, underlining their commitment to sustainable technologies.

Remy Notten from Dijkstra Plastic presented the Dutch perspective, explaining the company’s take-back service for plastic buckets. Once collected, the buckets are processed into granulate and reused to produce new buckets for the non-food sector, closing the production loop and preventing waste.

Following the presentations, smaller working groups of entrepreneurs from various sectors, including production, recycling, and plastics usage, discussed the challenges plastic companies face in relation to circular economy practices. Existing solutions were explored, and mutual exchange led to concrete solutions and best practices.

The event concluded with an insightful tour of Energenta’s facilities, offering participants a closer look at the company’s infrastructure and innovative circular economy approaches.

The "Cross Border Circular Plastic Session" was a great success, further emphasizing the importance of exchange between businesses and stakeholders in the circular economy. The event provided valuable insights and impulses for the development of circular economy strategies in our Dutch-German cross-border region.
