We can achieve more together – this also applies when it comes to cybersecurity. At least that is the conclusion of the participants in the German-Dutch business dialogue on AI & cybersecurity in Enschede.

In his keynote speech, Prof. Norbert Pohlmann (Westphalian University) showed how AI can help defend against attacks and emphasized the importance of the quality of security-relevant training data for AI.
Eric Ten Bos (Thales) represented the Dutch side with his keynote and continued the ideas of Prof. Pohlmann. “AI is spelt incorrectly, it should be IA – Intelligent Assistance”. AI is both an opportunity and a challenge - it is used by attackers, but it also helps, for example, to better detect attacks.
Subsequently Dr. Bernard Sonnenschein moderated the panel discussion with Lisbeth Holtermann, Prof. Norbert Pohlmann, Eric Ten Bos, Ozkan Demiroz MSIT and Prof. Matteo Große-Kampmann (AWARE7 GmbH); the main focus was on the importance of education and awareness around cybersecurity: Not everyone has to become a cybersecurity expert (keyword: security-by-design). However, in view of increasing threats from cyber criminals, companies should focus more on the topic and build up their skills. There was agreement both on the panel and in the audience that cross-border cooperation between Germany and the Netherlands can improve cybersecurity for companies on both sides. At the culinary conclusion to the event, possible joint projects were discussed.
